Last week I finished the first draft of my Alien Sex Gladiator interactive novel. I started it in December, thinking it would only take until June to write it. At 559K words and 1776 pages later, I see I grossly underestimated how big this thing will be. Oops.
Did I mention that it is just a first draft? That means I need to edit the sucker. There is a saying that by the time you finish something, you get a lot better at doing it. That means you have a higher skill level than when you started, which means the early parts of the book probably need to be upgraded to the same quality as the rest of it.
This might be the biggest project I have worked on. I have been in the protagonist’s head for nearly a year. He is a simple brute with occasional random acts of empathy, but not many. He is a jock, which is something I never really relate to. It has been weird. He feels like a fictional cousin, someone I think I know well but is still an alien to me.
Editing is for next month. I have three days left of October and I am taking them for me. I am going to cram some spookiness before I have to go bck to the alien gladiator arena. To that end, I will watch the Witch, maybe the Craft and probably Sabrina. I need to walk in shadow and dance in moonlight before returning to the hot sands of the arena.
